Learn how to clean mushrooms the right way with this easy guide!

There's nuance to cleaning mushrooms & the adage to never run them under water isn't actually true.

Mushrooms accumulate dirt & debris because of they way they're grown.

So they need to be cleaned thoroughly before cooking.

There are two methods: -The dry method -The wet method

The dry method involves using a dampened towel to gently wipe dirt off the mushroom.

This method works best with mushrooms such as white button, cremini, portobello, shiitake & others with a well defined, smooth cap.

A mushroom brush or soft pastry brush can also be used.

For the wet method, mushrooms are either placed in a colander and quickly rinsed or a bowl and soaked for a brief period of time.

When using the wet method, it's important to be QUICK with the water.

Mushrooms are like a sponge & absorb water quickly. This can make a recipe soggy & inhibit the mushrooms from browning.

Use the wet method on sliced mushrooms or when you're in a hurry.
