The Wonderful World of Oats

Humans have cultivated oats for thousands of years. More than just a pantry staple, oats are naturally gluten-free, eco-friendly, nutritionally beneficial, and have a very long shelf life.

There are three main types of oats, each best for different purposes. 1. Steel-cut Oats 2. Rolled Oats 3. Instant Oats

Steel-cut oats: - Least processed. - Have a chewier, nutty flavor.  - Ideal for cooked oatmeal.

Rolled oats: - Quickly steamed, then rolled flat. - Also called "Old Fashioned Oats." - Most versatile for baking, use in cookies, granola, bread, and more.

Instant Oats: - Most processed of the three.  - Also called quick oats.  - Not as much texture or flavor.  - Good for smoothies and quick breakfasts.

Other less popular forms of oats include barely processed oat groats and very processed oat flours.
