Every Thanksgiving table has a side dish it can’t live without. But which one takes the top spot depends a lot on where you live. DoorDash’s 2024 Thanksgiving ordering data shows which sides ranked highest across the country and where individual favorites came out on top. Nine of its national top 10 sides also ranked first in at least one state, showing how much Thanksgiving plates can change from place to place.

Idaho

Mashed potatoes take the top spot here, a fitting pick for a state famous for potatoes. Mashed potatoes rank first nationally too, winning in ten states total, more than any other side on this list.

Florida

Corn is the most-ordered side in Florida. It ranks second nationally, topping orders in seven states altogether. Florida’s sweet tooth leans traditional too, since pound cake topped the state’s dessert orders.

Vermont

Gravy takes the top spot in Vermont. It ranks third nationally as a side dish in its own right, winning in seven states. Gravy orders also jumped 630 percent on Thanksgiving Day, while gravy mix orders rose 250 percent as shoppers picked up last-minute holiday essentials.

Maryland

Sweet potato leads the table in Maryland. It ranks fourth nationally, also topping orders in Virginia and North Carolina. Maryland’s dessert pick stays just as classic, with pound cake topping its order list.

New York

Cranberries are the most-ordered side in New York. The tart favorite ranks fifth nationally, winning in six states total. New York keeps things fitting for dessert too, since apple pie topped its order list.

New Hampshire

Carrots take the top spot in New Hampshire. They rank sixth nationally and also win in Nevada and Rhode Island. New Hampshire’s dessert pick stays close to home, with apple pie leading its orders alongside neighboring Massachusetts and Maine.

Iowa

Green beans, usually served casserole-style, are the top order in Iowa. They rank seventh nationally, winning in seven states total, including Missouri, Indiana, and Nebraska. That puts several Midwestern states firmly in the green bean camp.

New Jersey

Stuffing sits ninth in the national order rankings, but it takes the top spot in New Jersey, making it the state’s standout pick. New Jersey’s dessert habits lean familiar too, with pound cake topping its order list.

Texas

Cornbread rounds out the list in Texas. It ranks tenth nationally, also topping orders in South Carolina and Louisiana. Texas keeps its sweet tooth decisive as well, with cheesecake taking the state’s top dessert spot.

The Bottom Line

So before you assume everyone’s plate looks like yours, DoorDash’s 2024 ordering data says otherwise. Somewhere in New Jersey, someone’s stuffing is stealing the show. Somewhere in New Hampshire, it’s all about the carrots. Wherever you land, your favorite side probably has more company than you think.
