If you’ve been keeping an eye on Holland America Line’s fleet, you’ll see it grow, and this time, nobody needs to build a new ship from scratch to pull it off. P&O Cruises is handing its ship Arcadia over to Holland America, while P&O picks up Queen Anne from its sister line Cunard.

Arcadia shares the same Vista Class platform as four Holland America ships you might already know: Oosterdam, Noordam, Westerdam and Zuiderdam. The line’s president, Beth Bodensteiner, called her “a natural fit.” She said Holland America keeps seeing strong demand for “perfectly sized ships,” and Arcadia gives the line room to welcome more of the guests who want them.

Holland America’s Fleet Grows to 12 Ships

Arcadia joins Holland America Line in 2029 and brings the fleet to 12 ships. The move adds room for more than 2,000 additional guests across the line.

The line called it a faster path to growth. It also gives Holland America more choice in where its ships sail, which could mean new options for you down the road.

What Could Change on Arcadia

Arcadia is also joining Holland America Evolution. That’s the line’s multiyear investment in bringing new venues, restaurants and staterooms, plus the best Pinnacle Class features, to more of its fleet.

Holland America has already revealed upgrades for Oosterdam and Zuiderdam. They include the Grand Dutch Café, a renovated Ocean Bar, Bridgeview Suites and Solo Verandah cabins for people who cruise alone.

Oosterdam debuts her upgrades in fall 2027, and Zuiderdam follows in April 2028.

Holland America hasn’t picked Arcadia’s venues and features yet, but it plans to decide in the next several months. Its website also teases a new name for her, so you’ll want to stay tuned.

P&O Cruises Picks Up Queen Anne From Cunard

The other ship changing fleets is Queen Anne. P&O Cruises is taking over the ship from its sister line, Cunard.

She carries 3,000 passengers, and she’ll get extensive design changes in 2029 to match the rest of the P&O fleet. You can find details on P&O’s website.

More Ships Could Follow

Bodensteiner said Arcadia helps the line grow sooner, and that its future plans include “thoughtful consideration of newbuilds.” She also said the extra capacity gives cruise travelers more choices, whether in favorite destinations or new ways to sail.

“There’s more to come,” she said, so expect more fleet news from Holland America soon.

Sailed on Arcadia or Queen Anne before? Your next trip on either ship will come with a different cruise line and a refreshed design. If perfectly sized ships are your thing, watch for Arcadia’s routes and leave some room in your 2029 travel plans.
