A Maldives Resort Just Turned Drive-In Movies Into a Lagoon Adventure

Siyam World, a resort in the Maldives’ Noonu Atoll, has introduced a new twist on movie night. Guests now climb into a JetCar and drive straight into the resort’s lagoon, parking beneath a floating screen to watch a film under the open sky. The ride there is part of the show before the movie even starts.

Guests steer their own JetCar to the viewing spot rather than letting someone else do the driving, and the film plays against the open night sky with the lagoon stretching out around them. There’s no indoor theater, and there are no walls between the audience and the water.

How a JetCar Cinema Session Works

Each JetCar Cinema session holds up to four guests, and the booking includes the JetCar ride, the film, drinks and popcorn, with one vehicle carrying the whole group. Sessions run after dark, with the screen glowing against the night sky instead of sitting inside a building. The screen itself stays fixed on the lagoon, and each JetCar settles into its own position facing it.

A Resort Built on Doing Things Differently

JetCar Cinema is the newest addition to a resort that has built its reputation on unconventional attractions. Siyam World is already home to the Maldives’ largest floating waterpark, the country’s first in-resort horse ranch and an electric go-kart track, according to the resort. Those three features set the pattern that JetCar Cinema now continues: take a familiar activity and move it somewhere a guest wouldn’t expect.

Part of a Larger Collection

Siyam World also sits within Sun Siyam’s Lifestyle Collection, one of three groupings in a House of Siyam portfolio that spans six resorts across the Maldives and Sri Lanka. At Siyam World, the lagoon is now the one spot where the night’s movie starts with someone behind the wheel instead of in a theater seat.
