Twenty-five years ago, kids lined up outside movie theaters to watch Harry Potter walk through the gates of Hogwarts for the first time. Now a lot of those same fans, some with kids of their own, are the ones lining up at Universal parks and Warner Bros. Studio Tours around the world. The celebration builds toward Sept. 1, the day Hogwarts students traditionally board the train back to school.

This year the milestone hits different. It’s the 25th anniversary of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” and a new HBO Original series is already building anticipation for a fresh generation of fans. Parks and tours across North America, Europe and Asia are responding with limited-time experiences, food and drink tie-ins and a few surprises fans have been asking for.

The scale of it is bigger than any single Back to Hogwarts celebration before. Six parks and tours across three continents are running special programming from Aug. 1 through Sept. 1, and for one week only, Aug. 27 through Sept. 3, all eight Harry Potter films return to theaters worldwide with 12 minutes of never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage.

Here’s where the celebration is happening:

  • Universal Orlando Resort: A limited-edition Butterbeer Mug, special food and drink offerings, and the return of the Hogwarts Always castle projection show.
  • Universal Studios Hollywood: A new Monster Book of Monsters encounter, plus house-pride giveaways and themed treats.
  • Universal Studios Japan: After-hours access for select guests on Sept. 1, the return of the Hogwarts Castle Walk, and digital collectibles.
  • Universal Beijing Resort: A brand-new Hogwarts Always projection show, themed food and drink, and a dedicated Gathering Night event on Aug. 28.
  • Warner Bros. Studio Tour London: Broadcasts every 30 minutes at Platform 9¾, animatronic Hagrid demonstrations, complimentary Hogwarts Train Tickets and a prize draw for a signed trunk and Studio Tour visit.
  • Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo: A countdown event and a dedicated photo opportunity to mark the day.

Whichever park is closest to you, this is the year to plan the trip. Butterbeer, castle walks and a Hogwarts Express send-off don’t line up like this every year, and this Sept. 1 is shaping up to be the one fans have been waiting 25 years for.
