A cruise ship lecture hall usually means a slideshow and a polite round of applause. On a handful of Oceania Cruises sailings starting in 2027, it will mean sitting a few feet from the man who co-founded Apple, or the actress who ran from a rolling boulder in “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” and getting to ask them anything.
The line is calling the new series Curated Conversations, an onboard enrichment program built around dialogue rather than lecture. Select sessions are hosted by the ship’s Cruise Director in an interview format, followed by an open Q&A, giving guests room to steer the conversation toward what they actually want to know. For travelers who book a luxury cruise expecting more than deck games and specialty dining, it’s a different kind of onboard draw: unscripted access to people whose work most passengers already know.
Oceania Cruises, which calls itself the world’s leading destination- and culinary-focused luxury cruise line, built the program around its adults-only ships, which call on more than 600 ports across over 100 countries. That scale, paired with a high proportion of spacious rooms and suites and a strong crew-to-guest ratio, is the backdrop the line is using to position Curated Conversations as an extension of its enrichment offering, not a bolted-on gimmick.
Steve Wozniak takes the stage on Oceania Allura
Steve Wozniak, the Apple co-founder and one of the defining figures of the personal computing era, will join a Curated Conversations session aboard Oceania Allura on a round-trip sailing from Miami running Jan. 27 through Feb. 5, 2027. According to the release, Wozniak will share personal insight into his role in shaping the computing revolution, along with an update on his ongoing work in technology and education. For a ship’s worth of guests, it’s a chance to hear that history firsthand rather than through a biography or documentary.
Karen Allen reflects on a career in film aboard Oceania Vista
Karen Allen, the award-winning actress and director best known for “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” along with “Starman” and “Scrooged,” will bring her Curated Conversations session aboard Oceania Vista on a sailing from Los Angeles to Papeete, running Nov. 11 through Nov. 28, 2027. Her session is billed as a reflection on storytelling, creativity and a life spent both in front of and behind the camera, drawing on decades across film, television and theater.
Jason Montague, Oceania Cruises’ chief luxury officer, said the program reflects what the line believes already defines its guest base. “Our guests are naturally curious travelers who value discovery as much as the destinations themselves,” Montague said, adding that the line wanted to create rare opportunities for guests to engage directly with people whose perspectives inspire new ways of thinking. Oceania says Curated Conversations will keep expanding fleet-wide, with additional speakers to be announced beyond Wozniak and Allen.
Luxury cruising has spent the past several years competing on suite size, dining pedigree and port variety. Curated Conversations points to a different kind of differentiator: who guests get to sit across from once they’re already on board. If the lineup keeps expanding the way Oceania says it will, onboard enrichment may end up being as much a reason to book a specific sailing as the itinerary itself.
