Cape Town can easily fill an entire vacation. Between the Atlantic coastline and the city’s cultural hotspots, you could spend a whole trip there without ever leaving town. The tourism boards for Cape Town and nearby Stellenbosch would rather you didn’t, and they just signed a deal to make their case.

Their pitch looks like this: a day by the ocean, then the next morning among the vineyards. Both boards want you to stay longer and see both places on the same trip. Cape Town brings the coastline and cultural attractions, while Stellenbosch adds wine, food, heritage and art.
Cape Town and Stellenbosch Sign a Joint Marketing Deal
Cape Town Tourism and Visit Stellenbosch announced a joint marketing agreement on Sept. 29. Stellenbosch drew more than 1.35 million overnight visitors in 2025, the boards said. Now they want to turn that traffic into longer stays.
What the Partnership Means for Your Trip
Don’t expect a ready-made package just yet. The boards plan to build joint itineraries and run shared campaigns on their digital channels, with competitions and giveaways in the mix. Tourism businesses in both towns will get a chance to take part, too.
The announcement didn’t include dates or details, so check both boards’ websites if you’re planning ahead.
A big part of the focus is South African travelers during school breaks, long weekends and the year-end holiday season. Overseas, the boards plan to pitch the pair together as part of a longer South Africa itinerary where it makes sense.
For Annemie Liebenberg, who runs Visit Stellenbosch, the deal also tackles the slow months. “Importantly, this partnership is also about addressing seasonality and creating reasons to visit across the year,” she said.
Why One More Night Is the Whole Pitch
Stellenbosch sits in wine country about 31 miles east of Cape Town. The drive usually takes an hour or less, so adding a night won’t cost you much time in the car.

Enver Duminy, who heads Cape Town Tourism, sees the pairing as a two-way street. “Stellenbosch adds another dimension to the Cape Town experience, and vice versa,” he said.
The boards boiled their message for travelers down to a three-part tagline: “Cape Town and Stellenbosch. One more night. So much more to experience.”
Planning a Cape Town trip? Give Stellenbosch a night of its own rather than squeezing it into a quick day trip. You’ll swap a rushed afternoon for an evening in wine country and a slow morning among the vineyards, just like the boards pictured it.
