Every Saturday evening, farmers and artisans fill the lemon gardens at Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento. Hotel guests join right in. The evening feels more like a neighborhood party than a hotel event.

Hotel owner Pietro Monti started the market. He calls it Il Sabato del Villaggio. He wanted guests to spend real time with local craftspeople, not just the coastline.
Every week, farmers and artisans set up stalls in the gardens. They teach guests how things are traditionally made here.
This way, guests get a close look at Sorrento’s food and craft traditions. It’s not the usual hotel activity list.
One Name Guests Do Not Expect To Find At A Hotel Market
E. Marinella showed up this year. It’s the famous Neapolitan tie maker, and it joined handmade sandal makers at the market. Local artists who make Tarsia Sorrentina, a traditional craft, were there too.
You won’t find that kind of lineup in any guidebook. That’s exactly the point.
Plenty of other local artisans joined in too this year. Wine producers and craftspeople set up stalls right next to each other in the gardens.
“Guests have told us that the market was the highlight of their stay,” Monti said. He hears guests call it magical and unforgettable. He wanted an easy night where guests learn Sorrentine traditions, not rush past them.
What Guests Can Actually Do At The Market
The market at Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento mixes hands-on fun with shopping. It’s also a gourmet event, built around Sorrento’s classic dishes and regional wines. Guests can:
- Watch mozzarella-making demonstrations.
- Join pizza workshops with the hotel’s pizzaiolo.
- Taste regional wines with local vineyard owners.
- Browse handmade sandals and Tarsia Sorrentina marquetry.
- Listen to traditional Sorrentine music while sampling regional dishes.

Monti wants to add more events in spring 2027. That means more chances for guests to meet local artists and producers.
He built the market around one idea: community matters as much as luxury rooms and sea views. The whole evening stays relaxed, not rushed.
If you want more than a pool and a view, Il Sabato del Villaggio gives you a Saturday night with the people who actually live in Sorrento.
