Families roam the streets by day, then crowd lakefronts for drone shows at night. With theme parks growing and local venues buzzing, Kissimmee holds its own against big-ticket cities.
Redefine the summer escape
Kissimmee raises the stakes this summer with major expansions to its theme park scene. The city leans into fresh concepts and bold production to stay ahead in a crowded tourism landscape. Visitors now find experiences that challenge the familiar and deliver something distinctly new.
Epic Universe adds Nintendo magic
Universal’s Epic Universe opened May 22, 2025, adding five themed lands and 50 attractions to Universal Orlando. This signals Universal’s push to grow its presence and attract a new wave of thrill-seekers to Central Florida. The lineup includes Super Nintendo World, where visitors join Mario and Luigi in interactive adventures, and the Ministry of Magic, which expands the Harry Potter story into a new realm.
Disney villains steal the spotlight
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” debuted May 27 inside the Sunset Showcase Theater with a theatrical retelling of fan-favorite characters. Maleficent, Captain Hook and Cruella de Vil lead a live musical that explores their backstories with sharp visuals and intense performances. The show broadens Disney’s lineup with an experience that appeals to visitors looking for darker storytelling and more theatrical impact.
Reimagined Little Mermaid show
“The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” took the stage May 27 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Animation Courtyard. The show reimagines Ariel’s story using new lighting, effects and updated musical arrangements that align with current production standards. It modernizes a classic tale while anchoring the refreshed section of the park with familiar characters and new visual storytelling.
Retro meets now at Crush Yard
Opened in early 2025, Crush Yard brings a 50,000-square-foot indoor venue to Kissimmee that combines retro games with a fast-growing sports trend. The complex features 10 indoor pickleball courts, an arcade, ping pong, darts and a full-service bar that offers casual dining and local brews. It also hosts glow-in-the-dark pickleball nights, amateur tournaments and live DJ sets, providing a venue for both relaxed and high-energy activities.
Crush Yard pushes Kissimmee’s entertainment mix forward with a venue built for both day play and late-night scenes. It strengthens the city’s identity as a place where sports and social energy merge without leaving the downtown core.
Rodeo culture rides strong
The Silver Spurs Rodeo will kick off its 155th year at 7:30 p.m. today in the Silver Spurs Arena at Osceola Heritage Park, with shows continuing through May 31. The largest rodeo east of the Mississippi and Florida’s official state rodeo brings all seven standard competitions sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association: bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling and women’s barrel racing.
Beyond the arena, supporting events like the Miss Silver Spurs Pageant and junior competitions draw wide community involvement. The rodeo also channels proceeds to local causes, including scholarships and veterans’ support. It’s both a high-profile competition and a celebration of the ranching legacy rooted in Kissimmee’s past.
Downtown diversions with local color
Kissimmee’s downtown combines small-town charm with a pace that changes as the day unfolds. Airboat tours give visitors a close look at local wildlife while vintage stores offer curated finds that reflect the area’s history. These daytime activities root the experience in Old Florida.
After dark, Kissimmee’s lakefront turns into a steady draw for visitors with food trucks, live music and drone shows reshaping the area’s evening scene. It reflects broader efforts to keep tourism active after sunset and build a nightlife identity that stands apart from theme park routines.
More than a stopover
Kissimmee steps into the spotlight this summer with a mix of blockbuster attractions and ground-level energy. From gator tours to glow pickleball, the city shows range and confidence in how it entertains. Travelers on tight schedules still find immersive experiences that reflect both its Old Florida roots and its evolving identity. It’s Florida at full volume, balanced by a local pulse that keeps it original.
